MTN is a pan-African mobile operator. Our purpose is embodied in our belief that ‘everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life’. Our strategy is ‘Ambition 2025 : Leading digital solutions for Africa's progress’. We provide a diverse range of voice, data, fintech, digital, enterprise, wholesale, and API services to more than 291 million customers in 19 markets.
We were established in South Africa at the dawn of democracy in 1994 as a leader in transformation. Since then, we have grown by investing in sophisticated communication infrastructure, developing new technologies and by harnessing the talent of our diverse people to now offer services to communities across Africa and in the Middle East.
When we started our journey, our ambition was to brighten lives through the power of connectivity. Today, extending digital and financial inclusion are more critical than ever. To support this, we are harnessing the power of MTN – our leading brand, broad presence and expert skills, connectivity infrastructure and technology platforms – through our strategy. We launched Ambition 2025 in 2021.
It is anchored in building the largest and most valuable platform business resting on a scale connectivity and infrastructure business, making use of both mobile and fixed access networks across the consumer, enterprise and wholesale segments. We are working to unlock the value inherent in our infrastructure assets and platforms and deleverage the balance sheet faster.
With ESG at the core of everything we do, we are driven to create shared value, and to accelerate the transformation of our portfolio to improve returns and reduce risk.
We are accelerating our strategy though selective partnerships and by leveraging Africa’s most valuable brand. This is being supported and funded through enhanced cost and capex efficiencies. The execution of Ambition 2025 is embodied in four clear strategic priorities. We have identified five vital enablers to assist in operationalising our strategy. Early in 2023, we introduced our refreshed values.
